Statement of intent
My aim is to be creative with my pictures and get inspired by people's work . My portrait theme is based on fashion photography and I chose this theme because I feel that I will really enjoy it because I am interested in fashion and it will give me an opportunity to be creative. The style I am interested in is vintage and will use this as a starting point for my project.
To start my research I will be looking at fashion photographers. There are three fashion photographers that have inspired my work and these are Nadine Ljewere , Karl Langerfeld and Craig McDean . Karl Langerfeld is a German fashion photographer and his work is vintage and uses pastel colours which suits my theme. He worked for Versace and Channel so his work is highly inspirational and established within the fashion industry. Nadine Ljewere is also another photographer that inspires my work because I love how she uses contrasting warm and cold colours in her pictures. It stands out a lot and her fashion sense is like a western look that is photographed in the countryside. Craig McDean pictures are like the same style as Karl Langerfeld as they both work within fashion photography, however McDean's photography are mainly in black and white, which I may use as inspiration in my own images.
When I chose this theme my thoughts were about fashion magazines and will use them to inspire me on how I take pictures. So I'm going to use different filters to make the picture stand out and put my creative thoughts to the test. To show progression through my work I will be using different tools on Photoshop, as I am using the tools I will snip my work as I go along to show each step of my progress . For my pictures I will use different lenses and angles on my pictures to create different effects. I will try different lighting setups and minimalist backgrounds that link to my ideas of magazine covers.
The camera that I am going to use is a DSLR camera which I will use in manual mode so that I can control the shots I am taking. I will use different apertures, shorter depth of fields so that the background becomes blurry on my pictures to focus upon the model, also I will try new ways to make my pictures really effective such as using different backgrounds, lighting and props.
Timeline I have 2 -3 months to finish the project, I will start by doing research and then experiment with different lighting and studio set-ups. I will then develop my images in Photoshop and create a final gallery to show my work.
Work progress As my project progresses I will write an evaluation on why I choose this project and how does it relate to the theme and then I will get a response from my teacher on what my weakness are and how to improve it, I will use this for the next project

Nadine Ljewere
I choose these pictures because I think they're inspiring and eloquent and the theme looks like they're in a desert.
These pictures inspire me because it's very aesthetic and the colour are contrasting with the accessories and also their facial expression changes.

Composition
In this photograph I can see that the camera point is directly at eye level, we are looking into the eyes of the mother. This makes us feel sympathetic towards her and the family. The focus point is the eyes because it's showing emotions . They have used a tripod to make it look like a still image. In my opinion I think the ISO level is at 100 because it was taken in the daytime, outside and not on a particularly bright day. The white balance setting is in daylight setting to make the picture clear. I think the photographer has used an aperture of around f/14 as you can see the background and the children quite clearly. The photographer used the rule of thirds in this picture because the mother’s face is in the top third of the image which draws your eye to her and makes you focus on her facial expression . Her head is also framed by her two children that adds drama to the image. The photo is in sharp focus and so I think that the shutter speed is set quite high. This picture is also a black and white picture which shows soft tones of grey around the mother and her children's, The mother's hair has a really strong contrast between black and white. The time that they took it was in the early afternoon. They didn't use any range of colours; the picture was only in black and white because that was the only setting they could use. The aura in this picture is giving me a melancholy and traumatic feeling because of their situation and what they are dealing with. There are strong leading lines going vertically and horizontally that make it really authentic that will allure the audience in.
Content
The structure of this picture is very old and ancient because it looks like they're in a house that is not stable to be in and they're sitting on barrels. Their clothes look like they have been dirty and ripped in some areas . The colour is black and white they look like they're in the middle of a desert with no food or water. The structure of the people is their facial expression. The mum at the front is sad but confused at the same time because she has no money. The kids look like they have been crying because they're starving . In the background there are some old things like a broken door that hasn't been fixed.
Connection
This theme is not relevant to my theme that I'm doing which is fashion photography because this theme is about power and conflict and the filter they're using is black and white. It doesn't really link to my work because it is different. The message behind this picture is about war and homeless people. They used black and white to repentant that the picture is very old and I would do this but not in my project I would do this when I'm older to show the world what is life really about.
Comment
I like this picture because it shows a powerful message behind this picture. There is no weakness that I can find in this picture because they used all of the camera points. This picture could help me to make the picture of the background blurry. The photographer took this for a reason because to show that war is dangerous.

context
Magdiel Lopez is a Cuban artist/photographer who is known for a variety of mediums including digital and print work. He is also known for working as a creative director and has contributed to brand identity.
Before his fame he first started his professional career as an artist in 2006. He gained attention when he started working with clients such as Apple, Nike, Braze, and Warner Bros. ( this information is from https://www.famousbirthdays.com/people/magdiel-lopez.html )
Composition
There is a rule of thirds used in this picture for example the women's face is in the top half this makes it stand out more especially with the pink variant background. Photoshop was used to cut out the face to replace it with a blue mountain and clouds around the the mountain, The lighting in this picture is good because you can tell she was at the beach but really she was at the studio .It also has a clear image so it has a fast shutter speed and it will be easier to Photoshop the picture. He also enhanced the brightness to make the picture more stand out. It makes it more admirable to look at because the picture is clashing with the warm (pink and orange) and the cold colors (blue and green). The photograph has a fair amount of colours , there is a hint of orange/peachy colour down the line making it look like it is the sand.
Camera points:
Magdiel used a modern camera to get the models face and the camera setting he used was shutter speed to get the image still so it will be easier for photoshop . He have also used a tripod to make it still.
In my opinion
I think the picture is a Japanese concept to describe what is going on because with the bright colors crashing into each other. This picture is like minimal style with a strong Photoshop technique that stands out, the orangey yellowish colour fades in with bright pinkish green background to make it stand out.
Connection
This picture does connect with the theme I'm doing which is fashion, it's a really good picture with the bright warm and cold colour fading in and the Photoshop is really good. It inspire my own edits
Third 4'cs- mocks
content- there is a girl that has purple flowers holding above her head that creates shadows ,her blue eyes are shining from sunlight making it more bright ,the shadow creates the flower shape on her cheek above her eye . the facial expression she is creating is a bit hard to figure out the only two i can pick up are sad or lost
composition - in the background it's out of focus so they also did that for the flower they probably used a tripod to get this picture because it is a still picture . they have used the rule of thirds to find the sweet spot. The sweet spot is the eyes in my opinion because that will grab the people's and focus mainly on her eyes . they have used an f stop on the background which is f/32 to become our focus . They have used iso to make the brighter along with white balance. They have used either sunlight or cloudy to get the results at the end . the exposure at the end came out good. It wasn't too high nor was it too low . they did use props which are the flowers but there aren't any patterns created in this picture. Another thing is , the picture was cropped off .
connections - I like their work. It is something that I would recreate when I am doing a photoshoot because it's my style of work. It's not too exciting nor too boring, it's in the middle . their strengths are aperture they did that good and their rules of thirds it gave us some strong leading lines horizontally and vertically the weakness is that the whole picture would be cool to see the persons hard work as a whole picture
inspiration- yes but the effects that they used for editing this picture . yes i do want my outcomes to become like this at the end because i really want to push myself to get the higher grade for my pictures

The lighting is going to be white because I don't want it to be over the top I want it to be very basic with a white back ground
so it look clean and enjoyable.
My camera setting
I'm going to use rule of thirds because I want the picture to be leveled 1 third of the background ,1 third of the model and 1 third of the floor also I'm going to use aperture to make it blurry at the back the setting that I'm going to use is in between f/4 or f/5.6.

Evaluation
This theme was based on the style of photography of portrait, I was excited to do this because it was a fun and cool to learn different styles of portrait photography. In this project I learned, how to use Photoshop to make my picture the best quality to achieve the higher grade, I choose fashion photography because it was challenging and interested me creatively, as I could imitate style of photography in fashion magazine shoots, cover shoots and posters.
The technique I would like to improve is using the ISO more effectively because when taking photography, I have taken them too dark. I want to learn tools on photoshop to edit my photographs in interesting ways to make them engaging for fashion magazine shoots. I'm slowly learning the tools like magic cut in Photoshop when using layers because I have found them to be confusing. I now know how to use the lasso tool and magic cut and I'm going to use it in the next project as well. I really enjoy this project, I'm hoping the next one is going to be more challenging and fun at the same time.
